Neil Aburn qualified for his medical degree at the University of Auckland and completed his specialist Ophthalmology training in Wellington and Palmerston North. He gained additional experience in a range of general ophthalmology positions in the UK and in Oculoplastics in Brisbane, Australia. He completed a Neuro-ophthalmology fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia, USA.
Mr Aburn is currently a Consultant Ophthalmologist in Wellington working at Bowen Hospital, Harbour Eye Specialists and at CCDHB where he has run a neuro-ophthalmology clinic for the past ten years. He is currently Clinical Leader in Ophthalmology for CCDHB and Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Wellington School of Medicine.
Surgical interests include: cataract surgery, lacrimal and tear duct surgery, eyelid surgery including malpositions (ectropion, entropion and ptosis) and eyelid malignancies.
His interests outside Ophthalmology include bush walking, hockey coaching (NZ Hockey certified) and also Philosophy (has a Postgraduate Diploma in Philosophy from VUW).
