At Bowen Hospital we specialise in providing ophthalmology services to diagnose and treat eye injuries, infections, disease, and other disorders of the eye.
Our Ophthalmologists are highly experienced and qualified ophthalmic surgeons who can provide a wide range of specialised eye surgeries and treatments for people of all ages.
If you are experiencing any eye issues you can visit your preferred Optometrist or General Practitioner who will undertake an eye examination. Your Optometrist or General Practitioner will refer you to an Ophthalmologist who specialises in the condition or eye issue you are experiencing.
Looking after your eye health is very important. Not only does an eye test tell you if you need glasses but it also detects for any common and not-so-common medical conditions early. It is recommended that you have an eye test at least every two years, if you notice any difference in your vision, start to experience changes or symptoms to your eyes, or fall into a certain age group such as over 40 where eye changes can occur.
You can contact your preferred Ophthalmologist who privately practices at Bowen Hospital. Many of our Ophthalmologists provide consultations at their preferred clinic. Surgery or other eye procedures may be performed at our Bowen Hospital.
Ophthalmology surgeries and procedures are day services. You will need someone to bring you to our Bowen Hospital and take you home afterwards. You will be in hospital for a few hours which includes your post-operative stay where you will enjoy our modern day stay recovery suite.
Strabismus is misaligned or not straight eyes and is found in young children. Sometimes children may hold their heads tiled or turned to one side. Strabismus is often an isolated issue which can be associated with decreased vision. In some cases, strabismus can be a sign of more serious eye conditions or neurological disease.
The misalignment of children’s eyes is often noticed by parents and whānau/family, teachers, general practitioners, or paediatricians.
A referral is required to an Ophthalmologist who specialises in paediatric strabismus for evaluation of the condition. Your preferred Paediatric Ophthalmologist will work with you on a treatment plan.
We are proud to be a centre that provides specialised ophthalmic services for our Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington community. Our Ophthalmologists are highly reputable and experts in their specialty and lead in ophthalmology treatments, procedures, and surgeries.
