Andrew has special clinical interests in:
His research interests include rheumatoid arthritis, gout, ankylosing spondylitis and barriers to access to health services.
He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals on these and other rheumatological conditions.
He is a graduate of the University of Otago School of Medicine and trained in rheumatology with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in Wellington and London. He completed his PhD at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, University of London, U.K.
He is an Associate Professor of Medicine at University of Otago Wellington, and is Clinical Head of Wellington Regional Rheumatology Unit and Clinical Leader of Research at Capital & Coast DHB. He serves as medical advisor to Arthritis New Zealand, and is a past-President of the New Zealand Rheumatology Association. He has been practising rheumatology for more than 20 years.
