Our services

Our services

At Bowen we strive to provide the very best for the people in our care, their family and whānau, our staff and specialists. Take a look at some of our services available during your stay below.

Ancillary services

Comprehensive radiology, physiotherapy and occupational therapy services are available on site.

Chaplains

At Bowen we have an inter-denominational chaplain. If you wish to be visited by a chaplain of your own faith, please ask your nurse.

Communications

Family, whānau and friends can phone you directly by calling (04) 479 2069. Our receptionist will transfer calls directly to your room.

Patients and visitors are asked to refrain from using cell phones within the hospital as these can interfere with calibrated medical equipment. Cell phones should be used only in reception and patient lounges.

Complimentary wireless internet access is available for all of our patients.

Fax facilities are available at reception and internet access is also available, but please notify us in advance if you require this facility. You will need to bring your own laptop, cables and your dial-up (ISP) access number.

If you bring computer equipment, cellphones or other electronic devices into the hospital please be aware that Bowen cannot take responsibility for their safe keeping.

Cultural needs

Please let us know if you have any spiritual or cultural needs. Should the services of an interpreter be required, please let us know well in advance of your surgery to ensure that this is arranged. There is a cost for this service.

Meals

Our menus are carefully selected to provide you with a choice of meals each day, these will be served in your room. A selection of snacks is also available. If you require a special diet, please notify the nursing staff well in advance so that our Food Services Team can carry out your wishes.

Meals are served at approximately the following times:
Breakfast – 8:00am
Lunch – midday
Dinner – 5:45pm (5:00pm weekends)

Tea and coffee-making facilities are also available for your convenience.

Mobility equipment

At Bowen Hospital, we have a variety of mobility equipment for hire or purchase (e.g. crutches and walking frames).

Physiotherapy

Your specialist and nursing staff will discuss with you the need for any physiotherapy.

Occupational Therapy

If you require the services of an occupational therapist, a referral will be sent prior to your admission and the therapist may contact you to discuss your home equipment needs (e.g. raised toilet seat, shower stool, etc). For some types of surgery it is strongly recommended that this service is used. There may be a cost involved dependent on your health provider, or if you are paying personally. The occupational therapist can inform you of this.

Phone follow up

If you answered yes to being called after your procedure, our nursing staff will contact you.
